THE IMMORTALS OF MELUHA : BOOK REVIEW

The Immortals Of MELUHA   Amish Tripathi. Westland,24 Jul 2017,p 415 ₹400.

The fictional mythological thriller,'The Immortals Of Meluha' is the first book from the Shiva trilogy series by Amish. The captivating story line and the excellent narrative style made it one of the national best sellers.
The book is a creative retelling of the story of 'Lord Shiva' in Indian Hindu mythology. Here , Amish portraits 'Shiva' as an ordinary man who lived in Tibet during 1900BC, near Manasarovar Lake and later emigrated to India along with his tribal people. The story develops on how this ordinary man named 'shiva' became 'The God Of Millions;Mahadev'.
Amish also puts light on the social evils like discrimination though not in direct terms and reminds us that no one can be classified as evil just because they are different from us. A person who may appear good to one may not be the same to other. The story testify 'har har Mahadev'- that all of us are God. A person elevates to the position of God through his 'Karma'. The book also possess a beautiful love story.
The compelling narrative style and creative plot exhibits Amish's excellence as an author. The story is entirely different from what we have heard and believed from our ancient myths and it clashes with our pre-existing believes. The story line is so convincing that it makes us wonder whether it is a fiction or a historical report!
Simplicity of the language used and the mystery latent in each of the pages makes the book interesting and at the same time compelling. One can't stop reading in middle of any chapter. Ending of the book  is also in a manner that evokes our curiosity at its peak.
